Hours of fundraising for a great causes, hours of setting up one of the most impressive stages Stevenson has ever seen, hours of dancing and watching the smiles form on the guests from the Riverside Foundation; this all amounts to the amazing annual collaboration that Stevenson High School creates, Project Dance.
Project Dance is an annual, school-wide, fundraising event that benefits the Riverside Foundation and the Kids In Need (KIN) Fund. With previous year’s record being $30,000, this year Stevenson set it’s goals for PD 2015 to be $40,000. The dance took place Saturday April 11, in the Sports Center at Stevenson High School. The dance is a celebration of all the hard work the students had put in throughout the year and to be able to celebrate their success, as well as get to see the faces of the people that they had helped fundraise money for. This year, the theme was “Out of This World”, which called for outer space activities. Therefore, Project Dance provided a huge, laser tag inflatable zone in the shape of an alien UFO.
About the Foundations:
The Riverside Foundation is a non-profit home for adults with developmental disabilities. Over 400 adults receive care and services in these homes, allowing them to gain independence and to be able to participate in recreational activities and develop new skills. The help that Stevenson had provided was to help maintain the supportive community for these individuals who depend on the care at Riverside.
The Kids In Need (KIN) Fund was established to support the growth of SHS students from families who are in financial need. KIN helps provide a free breakfast program for students who acquire free and reduced lunches and also receive certain classroom and co-curricular expenses.
BOOM Entertainment truly stepped up it’s game this year, especially since we had the opportunity to help such a great cause. Into the long hours of the Friday night before, both BOOM team members and DJ Club Members had set up all the behind the scenes work that it took to create the amazing stage that students saw when they walked in on Saturday night.
SHS DJ Club had done a fantastic job with not only assisting in set-up and tear down of the event, but also in DJing the entire event itself. From the beginning to the end, peers of the SHS students, ranging anywhere from freshman to senior dj’s, took on the stage by storm and introduced a fantastic array of music tastes that kept the crowd dancing long into the night.
With sets by Dj Caarve, Orbit, Chandler Haze, Ritz Bitz, Smiirk, Grimace, and Dj Flubz.
This year, the students had raised a past their goal of 40,000 and created a very successful fundraiser event that not only changed high school entertainment, but also touched the lives of the people who were helped through the Riverside Foundation and the KIN Fund.
