Hinsdale High School District 86 announced the Illinois High School Association has awarded Hinsdale South a Do What’s Right! Sportsmanship Banner for the spring 2014 girls soccer state finals. The award is given to schools that display exemplary sportsmanship at state final team events. An advisory committee made up of member school administrators and student leaders from around the state attend events and help judge the awards.
“It really is an award that is all about our students and their wonderful behavior and conduct,” said Principal Stephanie Palmer. “How proud we are, not only of our athletes, but of our students who come and support each other at these events.”
Athletic Director Kim Maloney said the banner is a community award that reflects behavior at games, how players and fans treat opponents and how parents act.
“Our theme, Expect Victory, over the past couple of years is about what our coaches and teachers expected from our student athletes as well as one another,” Maloney said. “What a great message we sent across the state of Illinois.”
Once the banner is received from the IHSA, the school will hang the banner in a prominent location.
